The Monarch Earth (OM Cutaway) shape is a real winner, echoing a more modern guitar aesthetic, and making itself supremely easy to hold and play. The body-shape’s natural inclination is to offer a primarily mid-range focussed tone but still retaining enough low-end to be considered an all-rounder.

Using the premium combination of kiln-aged (Torrefied) Sitka Spruce and Khaya Mahogany, this Monarch Earth model is already founded upon an extremely solid foundation.

The kiln-aged Spruce is air dried before being roasted in a kiln with precise controls over atmospheric and oxygen levels to reduce its moisture content. Then as the wood cools, precise amounts of moisture are re-introduced to the wood. The resulting timber is more stable and aurally it produces a rich, mellow tone with a mature voicing which would take perhaps 20 years of waiting to achieve under normal circumstances.

Now, when this caramel-toned wood is treated to a bespoke hand-sprayed burst by master luthier, Patrick James Eggle, the effect is truly mesmerising. Due to the skill with which the various tones are applied, the layer thickness can be significantly thinner than when done on a commercial scale. The resulting array of colour almost shimmers across the wood.

This colour process is applied to the whole of the guitar body to create one coherent piece set off beautifully by the solid, flamed maple binding for which Faith Guitars have become famous.

The protective lacquer used on Faith Monarch models is Nitro-Cellulose, rather than the more common Polyurethane.

Nitro-Cellulose allows the wood to breathe and move much more effectively than PU. Even after Patrick spraying 16 individual coats of Nitro, interspersed by curing time, the lacquer thickness is approximately 150microns. This is very thin indeed, so the roasted spruce and African mahogany are free to resonate as nature intended.

The hand-burnished, semi-satin final finish is complemented by PJE monogrammed Gotoh 301 machineheads and an ultra-thin celluloid tortoiseshell-pattern pickguard.
